I can understand your dismay at the increase in GST. However, let me assure you, we have adquate measures in place to help the needy who are going to be affected by this increase.
Lets look at a family with a income of $1,600. Assuming a loaf of bread in the morning to feed the entire family, meal of 1 pkt of chicken rice in the afternoon and night each at $2, the daily expense of the family per day on food would be approximately $20 at most. Assuming a 30 day month, this works out to only $600.
Other necessities like school uniforms amortize over 2 years would at most come up to $50/mth but than again I might be wrong here.
However, if these "poor" insist on enjoying items like TV, going for enhancement classes, keeping expensive cellphones, broadband internet at home, than they shouldn't blame the government. These are not classified as necessities.
